Matthew Carriss-Wright - Manufacturing Team Leader
"After spending a couple of months carrying out my role as a Machine Operator I could really see the potential within the business for personal progression, and really warmed to the direction in which Princes was going with its investment in people and training"
My role at Princes started in 2010. I took a role as a machine operator after working for the business through an agency for 4 months.
Originally I was only seeking work for a temporary basis as I was new to the manufacturing industry. After spending a couple of months carrying out my role as a Machine Operator I could really see the potential within the business for personal progression, and really warmed to the direction in which Princes was going with its investment in people and training.
My biggest challenge is one that I am currently taking part in. Over the past 8 months I have been involved in a new concept called early equipment management for the installation of a brand new manufacturing line at the Bradford site. This has involved being part of the project from an early stage and having a massive input into the line preparation, commissioning and training phases.
I am most proud of my personal progression within Princes within such a short period of time. Over the last 5 years I have gone from being a Machine Operator to a stand in Team Leader. Then after establishing a permanent Team Leader role I covered the Shift Operation Manager for holidays and absence. Finally I moved into my current role within the new production line project at Bradford.
Personally I strive for new challenges so my role within the project really suits me. I have to work cross-functionally with various departments to achieve our project goals which is very rewarding when the targets are met. Also I have team members that I am currently mentoring and coaching which will establish a high performing team for the production line.
Princes invest a lot of time in training and developing its employees. This training has not only helped me in my work life but has also helped me in my personal life with values and behavioural workshops giving me a great foundation to build my own life around as well as my families. At Princes the personal development from within is really beneficial to the business and gives a strong footing as employees are encouraged to better themselves and given the coaching and guidance to do this.
Originally I trained as a bricklayer and worked for my family building business which has been established for 3 generations. To step away from that was difficult but to be part of a successful company like Princes makes it worthwhile.
Princes have evolved greatly over the past few years that I have been involved at Bradford site. It is moving forward and becoming a key investor in the employees that work on site and I am a great example of the investment.
