David Williams - Buying Executive
"The people in Princes are without a doubt the best part about working for the company"
My name is David Williams and in June 2013, as part of my studies, I was employed in the Buying department as one of the first Princes Interns. I had been looking for a student placement whilst studying Buying at John Moores University, and being from Liverpool myself, I wanted to stay in the North West. With Princes being based in the Liverpool City Centre it was a perfect fit for me. Princes is a large, reputable company, and I saw it as an attractive opportunity to gain good experience in the food manufacturing industry, as well seeing the future career prospects of working in such a stable organisation.
I am really proud of achieving my First class degree in Business Studies and securing my role back at Princes. This was a real achievement for me and I felt my placement had really helped with that as I was able to apply theoretical knowledge to real life situations. I recall being quite a shy individual before my placement, but during my internship I was able to really build my confidence. Initially I was too scared to answer the phone to both internal and external people, but through the exposure to different scenarios and different people, I quickly overcame this.
When I returned in August 2015, I moved into Marketing (Soft Drinks) as Marketing Executive. It was a varied role, covering lots of different areas. I managed certain customer sectors, which can be quite difficult but was very educational and enjoyable. I have now secured the role of Buying Executive within the Group Buying department responsible for our Italian Products, vegetable and fruit range, plus oils.
The people in Princes are without a doubt the best part about working for the company. I have experienced a range of departments and I know that I can approach anyone and they will be more than happy to help, everyone is very friendly. That’s the key thing for me, it’s like one big team all working together to help the company.
I’d like to encourage others to apply for roles in Princes as I can see the real benefits of working here. After my placement I couldn’t picture myself going anywhere else, for me personally, it’s great working here.
