My name is Ben Porter and I started working in Manchester in August 2010 as a Production Operative and thoroughly enjoyed my role. I was working well within the manufacturing site but jumped at the chance to complete an Engineering Apprenticeship. I have always had a keen interest in Engineering, which is why I moved to the Engineering department when the opportunity came up.

My biggest challenge to date has been learning new skills and keeping myself focused on both my college work and also ensuring I am successful in applying theory to my day to day work at site. I attend college one day a week and then attend site to apply my learning.  I am mentored by the site Engineers and I’m constantly learning the skills to become a fully qualified multi-skilled engineer.

I’m really proud to have been given the opportunity to complete an apprenticeship at Princes Manchester.  And I’m proud to have transferred from Production to Engineering.  I am due to complete my apprenticeship in 2017.

The team at Manchester are really supportive and have given me a great opportunity to progress my career, which I am really grateful for.  Everyone at the site is friendly and approachable and we all work hard to ensure the success of the site.
