Job Purpose

  • Overall profit responsibility for Fish Customer Own Brand and Out of Home Channels customers.

  • Total turnover of £70m per annum

  • Leadership and development of the team.



  • Management of the team members for the relevant area: 2 x Senior Buyers and 1 x Senior Marketing Manager

  • Internal contacts – Buying; Operations; Sales; Marketing ;Technical; NPD; Logistics; Legal; Finance; Treasury; Customer Services, Planning and Stock control Teams, up to Senior Manager/Director level.

  • External contacts- all product and service suppliers appropriate to the product portfolio. Key customer contacts plus relevant Trade organisations and NGOs.

  • Responsible for the delivery of the marketing and purchasing strategy for the relevant Business Sector/SBA’s.

  • Specific project work may be assigned to the Commercial Controller such as, but not limited to, acting as project leader or project manager.


Principal Responsibilities

  • Overall commercial responsibility for the defined area, including working with the Sales team to deliver budgeted sales targets and profitability.

  • Management of staff including training, work assignment and prioritisation of work, performance evaluation, administration and the continued counsel and development of team members.

  • Develop the business sector brand and supply strategies for relevant areas of responsibility.

  • Responsible for the management of purchase contracts and purchasing of currency in line with company policy.

  • Responsible for ensuring that the best information is obtained from suppliers and other sources with regard to market trends, pricing fluctuations and forecasts so that Princes remains the leading provider of information in the markets we operate in, using and presenting this knowledge to key internal and external stakeholders.

  • Liaise with and support the Stock Control team to deliver the inbound and outbound service level targets of the company, whilst maintaining working capital in line with budget requirements.

  • Devising the appropriate price and promotional strategy, monitoring the mix of full price sales versus promotional sales to achieve profitability targets.

  • Responsibility for the relevant product portfolio. Using market information, and internal sales data to recommend relevant actions to ensure they meet customer and consumer expectations.

  • In conjunction with the NPD and Technical functions, development of new products and management of innovation.

  • Set product quality standards via briefs to the Technical Department and take relevant decisions if products fall short of the desired standard.

  • Preparation and execution of brand and category plans to include market share and distribution targets, appropriate communications plans and effectiveness measures in line with agreed budgets and internal financial targets.

  • Monitor, report on, and devise appropriate strategies to counter competitor activities and plans within relevant sector.

  • Maximise distribution of products to achieve KPIs detailed in the Business Plan.


Knowledge, Skills & Experience

  • Degree - or equivalent, preferably Business related.

  • Professional qualification is preferable.

  • Extensive experience in a senior level role.

  • Can demonstrate excellent commercial acumen.

  • Market leading knowledge of the relevant supply conditions.

  • Very strong communication, presentation & team working skills.

  • Excellent analytical and report writing skills.

  • Strong organisational skills with a methodical, structured approach.

  • Competent user of Microsoft applications (Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint plus extensive SAP experience.

  • Knowledge of the food industry, competitors and customers.

  • Self motivated and resilient.

  • Ability to deal with challenges and objections confidently.
