Job Purpose

The role will work closely with the Head of L&D to drive the strategic direction for Apprenticeship and professional development programmes. The role will be the first point of contact in terms of Professional Development & Apprenticeship Levy requests coming in from the business and identify who or what solution. They will manage L&D Proffered Supplier List (PSL) and third party provider relationships ensuring we are maximising the opportunity to draw down on the L&D budget and circa £470k levy payment available to Princes from their contribution. This role will be required to introduce development solutions that support skills development in areas that increase the capability and diversity of new and existing employees to achieve the Princes strategic plans. They will work closely with the L&D team and HR business partners to develop programmes with external providers based on business needs. They will also work closely with the external partner to ensure our needs are being met. They will be responsible for reporting and tracking completion to the local HR team and business and there will be an element of administration required in the role. Overall they will maintain general oversight of professional development and external training programmes from development to achievement.

Dimensions

  • Reports on a day to day basis to the Head of Learning and Development

  • HR peer group of other key senior HR team members – HRBP’s, Learning and Development Business partner

  • Operational peer group of other key stakeholders – Junior Management grades

  • Nurturing and developing relationships with third party organisations, funding bodies and other governmental / non-governmental organisations

  • Responsible for managing some elements of the overall Levy DAS, managing the PSL, selecting suppliers and ensure maximum return on investment.

 

Principal Responsibilities

  • Working collaboratively with the Learning & Development team to identify how the Levy can be utilised for any requests coming in from the business

  • Understanding external training provider needs across all UK sites in collaboration with L&D team developing a PSL

  • Identify opportunities to develop the Apprenticeship offering based on business talent development and recruitment needs

  • Work collaboratively to design professional development and Apprenticeship programme solutions

  • Manage the process of bringing in new providers where necessary acting as liaison with Legal

  • Work with the preferred training providers, and supply chain where required, to identify strategically aligned opportunities to utilise the apprenticeship levy and maximise external training spend

  • To advise on and provide guidance to colleagues on what development solutions will meet their needs through

  • Manage the colleague programme on boarding process from application through to successfully starting

  • Support People Managers to ensure they understand their role in supporting those going through external training

  • Act as a mentor to colleagues on programme ensuring they are receiving the support needed to be a success

  • Review analytical data, identify trends, and produce regular updates

  • Manage the quality of the apprenticeship provision provided by the partnered training provider and relevant supply chain

  • Provide completion financial reports collating information from the partnered training provider on a monthly basis

  • Manage the forecasting of available funding ensure we utilise all available funding

  • Identify opportunities for Princes to engage in trailblazer groups with our partnered training party provider

  • Ongoing analysis on the impact of our offering

  • Set up Gateway and EPA processes at the relevant point of each programme

  • Day to management of the relationship with our partnered training providers

  • Work closely with our government partners to keep up to date in changes in Levy rules

  • Lead the organisation of achievement celebration events

 

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

  • Previous experience of working in an L&D team

  • Experience working with Apprenticeship schemes essential

  • Experience of dealing with 3rd party providers and government funded providers

  • Experience of collaborating with external providers to design training programmes

  • Understanding of the Apprenticeship Levy and experience of implementing development utilising this funding

  • Knowledge of learning and development models and processes and proven track record of practical application of these.

  • Experience of designing and overseeing technical training programmes

  • The role holder will have strong customer focus and be resilient in their drive to make a difference

  • Experience of delivering training would be desirable but not essential

  • Self-disciplined and motivated

  • Excellent influencing and motivational skills

  • Strong coaching skills

  • Ability to quickly establish credibility across all levels of the business

  • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills

  • Capable of multitasking and able to work under pressure with multiple time critical deadlines

  • Thinks laterally in terms of problem solving and demonstrates a fair, consistent and pragmatic approach to delivering sustainable solutions

  • Able to travel to all UK sites with some overnight stays required

  • Ability to work effectively individually but also as part of a team

  • A flexible approach to work

  • Ability to analyse data and update and disseminate information quickly and accurately using Excel
