Case Study – Smith Alamu – EOL Packaging Manager
My name is Smith and I’m about to complete the Princes Fast Track Developing Leader Programme.
I chose this apprenticeship as my development is important to me. I achieved my degree in Food Science at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology in Ogbomoso, Nigeria, before moving to the UK in 2008. I have spent my working life in the food industry.
It is great that Princes offers apprenticeships to existing colleagues and this programme has given me the opportunity to develop my leadership skills.
The programme has been intense but very rewarding and I have learnt a lot about myself throughout, as well as skills for life including leadership styles, emotional intelligence and how to motivate and manage people.
If anyone is thinking about putting themselves forward for this apprenticeship, I would definitely recommend it, but you need to ensure you give the programme the time and effort it deserves.
I am aware that this year’s National Apprenticeship week’s theme is #skills for life. My one key skill I have learnt is to manage time. Once you manage your time effectively any job becomes easier, and you can better prioritise tasks into what is urgent and what is important.
