Case Study – Shaun Goodacre – Senior National Account Manager, Liverpool

I joined Princes on the Graduate Training Scheme in 2011 after completing an International Business degree at Sheffield Hallam University.

When I started I thought I wanted to be a Buyer but after completing my rotation in Sales I knew that’s where I wanted to specialise.

My first big role was as a National Account Manager in charge of a number of our discount stores, before being promoted to a number of different key retail partner accounts where I have spent the past 6 years.

I’ve travelled the world with Princes, seeing our food supply chain from start to finish. I’ve watched our olives being picked from trees, pressed in our factories in Spain and delivered to the shelves of our stockists.

I love Sales and the ability to engage with customers. A highlight was taking our customers to one of our tuna factories and showing them the full manufacturing process, to see first-hand how we produce a tin of tuna.

I think that what we do as a FMCG business makes a difference because we supply food to people all over the UK – and we like to do it in the right way.

The training that Princes provides is really good. On the Graduate Scheme you learn everything from how to give a presentation to negotiating and sales skills. This is both internal and with well-known external training companies.

But the training never stops. With Princes’ new pathways tool you have access to training content at a time and a place of your choosing. This is one of the great changes I have seen in Princes over the past 10 years.

There is a real focus on enabling you to be the best you can be through the L&D programme they have on offer and it’s really pleasing to see Princes win the Grocer Employer of the Year Award.

I’ve had a number of fantastic line managers, all with different styles and ways of doing things, and I’ve learnt lots from them all.

Princes gives you the opportunity to push yourself hard and grab opportunities with both hands.

Over the past ten years, Princes have given me the opportunity to progress from a graduate to a senior account manager.

I’ve been moulded and shaped from a raw graduate to what I hope will be a director of the future. I feel like I’ve got a great career ahead of me with Princes.
