Case Study – Nicola Hampton – Senior Legal Counsel, Liverpool
No two days are ever the same at Princes. It’s fast paced, busy and exciting work.
One of the huge attractions of the job is how closely the legal team works with Princes’ commercial teams around the world.
On any given day I could be reviewing contracts, looking after our intellectual property or getting involved with new product development.
It’s a very hands on role, with lots of collaboration and it is great to be part of the team and to see the success. I’m learning so much, not just about the law, but what makes a successful commercial business.
Whatever your background, grade or role I really like that everyone’s opinion is valued here. As a young person, and a woman in business, that’s a massive tick for Princes and something they do very well.
I had my first taste of the company on a two-week summer placement while I was a student at Liverpool John Moore’s University doing a Law and Criminal Justice degree. I loved it.
After I’d completed a post-graduate degree at The University of Law, Chester, they invited me to apply for a role as group legal assistant and I’ve worked my way up since, with some excellent training along the way.
I joined at the same time as John Owen (who joined the business on the graduate scheme), and it feels that there’s a peer group that is going up the ranks together. I now have two trainee solicitors reporting into me, which is a good chance to give something back.
I’m also on the Pride in Princes panel, which recognises colleagues’ outstanding work every quarter, I’m social secretary for the team in Liverpool and can often be seen keeping fit by running alongside the River Mersey at lunchtimes with others in the team.
“My best move by far was to join Princes. I feel part of a big team.”
